Administration and Faculty Qualifications

Eastwind Christian Academy is committed to maintaining a highly qualified faculty. Qualified and caring teachers form the foundation of a positive learning environment by promoting academic excellence through biblical principles and Christian values.  All of our teachers meet one or more of the following requirements:

  • Teacher Certification with the State of Florida
  • Three or more years of public or private school teaching
  • Baccalaureate Degree or higher
  • Special skills, knowledge, or expertise that qualifies them to provide instruction in subjects taught

School Administrators

John Johnson

School Director

Mr. Johnson graduated from Apostolic Bible Institute and served as an associate pastor at Calvary Tabernacle in Indianapolis. He was also an instructor at Calvary Christian High School and Indiana Bible College. After returning to Florida, Mr. Johnson continued his teaching career as a public-school math instructor. He earned a Master’s in educational technology and a Specialist’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Central Florida. In 2003, Mr. Johnson earned National Board Certification in mathematics. In 2006, Mr. Johnson became a state certified school administrator and served in that capacity for 18 years with Brevard Public Schools.

Denise Johnson

Principal

Dr. Denise Johnson also serves as a school administrator at Eastwind Christian Academy. She believes every child is a gift from God and deserves to have the best educational opportunities possible. Dr. Johnson attained her BA from the University of Central Florida in 1981 and began her teaching career. After teaching grade levels K-8 and college classes in private and public schools for 19 years, Dr. Johnson became a school administrator and served for 19 years. She has a Master’s degree and a Master’s Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Indiana University. She attained her Doctorate’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Barry University. Dr. Johnson was recognized as a Level 5 Leader by Brevard Public Schools through John Maxwell’s leadership program.

Together, John and Denise Johnson bring over 75 years of experience in education to ECA. As residents of Brevard County for over 40 years, John and Denise Johnson have attended and contributed to the ministries of Eastwind Pentecostal Church. Their shared passion for Eastwind Christian Academy is to create a positive learning environment by promoting academic excellence through biblical principles and Christian values.

Teachers

Taylor Chavez

Teacher

Taylor Chavez is a dedicated teacher who believes education is key in unlocking optimum opportunities for students. Mrs. Chavez graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelors in Education K-6. After graduating, she taught for Brevard Public Schools for over five years. In addition to her teaching experience, Mrs. Chavez has served as a tutor, an organizer for after-school events, and as the Grade-Level Chair for a team of teachers. She has demonstrated remarkable skills in positive student progress and as a team leader of educators.

As a faithful member of Eastwind Pentecostal Church for the past 20 years, Mrs. Chavez has served as a devoted Sunday School teacher. She feels blessed and privileged to be part of the team at Eastwind Christian Academy (ECA), and she is committed to fostering academic and spiritual growth in her students. By combining her teaching skills and Christian values, Mrs. Chavez creates a positive learning environment where students shine.

Kayla Hayes

Teacher

Kayla Hayes, a dedicated educator, is passionate about integrating faith into the classroom and curriculum at Eastwind Christian Academy (ECA). She has taught in the Brevard Public Schools community for nearly six years. In addition, she has devoted over 13 years to the Sunday School Ministry, nurturing the spiritual growth of young minds. Kayla eagerly looks forward to seamlessly weaving her faith into the fabric of Education. Her philosophy centers on fostering academic excellence, critical thinking, and spiritual growth within her classroom.

Miss Hayes obtained her BA from the University of Central Florida, with endorsements in Reading and ESOL. Her contributions as an Emerging Teacher of the Year and Rookie Teacher of the Year highlighted her unwavering dedication and promise in Education. In the 2021-2022 academic year, Miss Hayes was recognized as Teacher of the Year! However, her impact extends far beyond the classroom.

In addition to attaining a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Miss Hayes demonstrates her leadership skills as she pursues academic excellence. She has served as a mentor, a Grade Level Chair, and a valued member of the Teacher Leadership Council. Miss Hayes provides professional development opportunities to colleagues of her profession.

Miss Hayes brings a wealth of experience, a dedication to excellence, and considerable expertise to the ECA family. She is committed to nurturing young minds in a supportive and faith-filled environment. Miss Hayes strives to promote academic excellence, critical thinking and spiritual growth by inspiring students to develop a strong moral compass, empathy for others and a sense of purpose in their lives. Miss Hayes is excited to serve as an exceptional instructor and a teacher leader at ECA.

Chris Nord

Teacher

Mr. Nord began his college career at Indiana University with a major in Elementary Education. He has continued his pursuit at Western Govenors University. He has served his community and worked with children in a variety of ways as a Sunday School teacher and director, a licensed foster parent, and as a fund developer for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Since moving to Florida, Mr. Nord and his wife, Mandy, have served faithfully in Eastwind’s Sunday School. Mr. Nord is currently the director of Children’s Ministries at Eastwind Pentecostal Church.

Mr. Nord focuses on encouraging students to strive for academic excellence, while supporting their spiritual development. Mr. Nord believes this can be accomplished by setting high academic standards in the classroom and developing individual relationships with each student to assist them in mapping out their path to success. Through faith-based education, students can be equipped both academically and spiritually to be excellent leaders in their communities. Mr. Nord brings considerable experience in management and leadership to the classroom with a focus on student success.

Specific knowledge and expertise through professional development and curriculum training qualifies Mr. Nord to provide instruction at ECA.

Sue Pippin

Office Administrator

With nearly 40 years of experience with Holmes Regional Medical Center and Health First, Inc. as a secretary, financial/project analyst and administrative advisor, Mrs. Pippin brings her ability to organize, manage and multi-task to Eastwind Christian Academy. Additionally, Mrs. Pippin has been a member of Eastwind Church for 50 years and she has served in Eastwind’s Sunday School for many years.

Mrs. Pippin always has a warm smile and a “can-do” spirit. She is the first one you will see at the ECA office and she is always ready to assist.

Resource Teachers

Dr. Margaret Myers

Guidance Counselor & Teacher of Social/Emotional Skills and Guidance Counselor

Dr. Myers received her doctorate in mental health counseling from Barry University. She has worked with children and adults in her professional practice as a mental health counselor for the past 25 years. Dr. Myers taught counseling classes at Webster University and served in the counseling department at Central Middle School.
Dr. Myers brings valuable experience and expertise to ECA with a Christian perspective and godly focus. She teaches Social/Emotional Skills to all students.
